Eelpower, the pioneering UK energy storage company, is pleased to announce that Marcia Poletti, Head of European System Change at Octopus Energy, has joined its Board as a Non-Executive Director.
Marcia has deep government and strategy experience, with a career spanning from energy consulting at McKinsey to creating energy transition policy for the UK Government. She joined Octopus Energy earlier this year from OFGEM, where she was Strategy Deputy Director for four years. Before OFGEM, she worked at the Department of Energy & Climate Change, HM Treasury and the Office of Fair Trading.
Stephen Partridge-Hicks, Chairman of Eelpower said: “Marcia’s extensive experience of the UK and European energy sectors, in particular her work on energy systems and markets, will be hugely valuable as we embark on our next phase of growth.”
Marcia Poletti commented: “We need to roll out renewables as quickly as possible, but you can only make that work for the system in a low cost way if you have plenty of flexibility – either in the form of consumer demand side response, or in terms of batteries. I see Eelpower as a key player in driving the industry forward in this energy storage space. Batteries are wonderful assets, because they can move consumption around – giving power back into the grid and taking it out when needed, and they can provide critical services to the Electricity System Operator (ESO) in a changing energy world. Batteries can also help reduce constraint costs, which are currently forecast to increase significantly. Eelpower and their batteries are a stepping stone to enabling the ESO and the DSOs (Distribution Systems Operators) make the most efficient use of their assets.”
